07 Jun Goals vs. Results
Fitness goals are easy to set. Anyone can make them and nearly everyone does but what’s a goal without a plan? Just a wish.
What we mean is that whether or not your body changes, setting a goal has very little to do with the actual results. It has everything to do with the actions you take and the behaviors you alter in the process of moving toward that goal.
For example, setting a goal to lose 10 pounds is good. But merely thinking of the goal doesn’t make it happen. What you CAN control are all the contributing factors – all the necessary required actions, all the things that YOU can directly take responsibility for.
How often are your habits the thing that you’re tracking? Many people set a weight loss goal, and then only track their weight. They hop on the scale as a measure of whether or not they’re achieving the goal or the outcome, right?
But what if instead you actually tracked all your necessary required actions. Focus on the actions themselves. Focus on what you can control. Focus on what you can take ownership of and responsibility for.
If you’ve correctly identified reasonable action steps, eventually you will achieve the outcome that you’re looking for. Even if it doesn’t happen exactly on schedule, you can look back over the course of a few weeks or even a few months, and see a history of whether or not you put in the necessary effort. Simply adding in one extra FLEXcity Fitness class each week or one more healthy meal every day will make a huge difference over time.
Actions speak louder than words. It’s time we placed a higher value on the actions that lead to results, not just the outcomes for our fitness goals. Let’s instead take ownership of what we can control, and consistently do our personal part in achieving our goals. The results will take care of themselves.
